The Even Realities G2 smart glasses, priced at $599 (around Rs 57,004), offer a unique privacy-focused design without cameras or speakers, featuring a discreet heads-up display. Indian Express Tech reported on their minimalist look and text-only information display.
Even Realities, a Chinese upstart, has launched its G2 smart glasses, which are notable for their privacy-first design and a discreet heads-up display. Priced at $599, which converts to approximately Rs 57,004, these glasses skip cameras and speakers, focusing instead on a minimalist information display, as reported by Indian Express Tech.
The G2 glasses aim to tackle common privacy concerns associated with smart eyewear. According to Indian Express Tech, the device does not come with cameras or speakers and does not harvest user data, a distinct approach compared to products like the Meta Ray-Ban glasses.
In terms of design, the Even Realities G2 are described as looking like regular glasses. The reviewer at Indian Express Tech likened their round lenses to the iconic glasses Steve Jobs used to wear, calling them "Steve Jobs glasses." Made from titanium and magnesium, they weigh just 40 grams, contributing to their lightweight and comfortable feel, even for all-day wear.
The glasses also boast an IP65 rating, making them dustproof and water-resistant enough to handle rain and light rinsing, though they are not designed for submersion or high-pressure water exposure. While the technology is largely invisible, the electronics and touch controls are discreetly housed within capsules in the temple tips.
What truly sets the G2 apart is its built-in display. Instead of a full-colour screen, it features a monochrome green micro-LED display with a 640x350 resolution and a 27.5-degree field of view. This display can reach a peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits. The waveguide optics in a binocular setup allow both eyes to see the image, which is described as delivering sharp visuals, though precise positioning on the nose is needed.
The display is designed for quick glances at text information and navigation arrows, reminiscent of older green text CRT TVs, as noted by Indian Express Tech. Once set up via an app, users see a tile-based dashboard showing the clock, battery levels, news, calendar updates, and health data.
Navigation of the interface is done through taps and swipes on touchpads built into the temples. While these controls are reported to be responsive and generally work well, Indian Express Tech did observe occasional sluggishness. To address interaction, the company also offers the R1 ring separately for $249 (around Rs 23,678), which mirrors the tap-and-swipe controls, placing them more naturally next to the thumb.
At a price point of Rs 57,004 for the glasses alone, the Even Realities G2 positions itself as a niche product for Indian consumers who prioritise privacy and a minimalist smart glass experience. While the source mentions it offers a glimpse into daily smart glass use, an official India launch date and local pricing confirmation remain unconfirmed.
