Garmin has started rolling out a new beta software update, Beta Version 24.12, for its Fenix 8 series smartwatches. This update, reported by Notebookcheck, is currently available to participants in Garmin's Beta Program, aiming to improve the experience for owners of these high-end wearables.

Currently, Fenix 8 and other non-Pro smartwatches are on System Software 23.40. The Fenix 8 Pro, however, along with the Tactix 8 Pro, remains on the older System Software 23.39 for the time being. This new beta release introduces a fresh software version for eligible devices.

Garmin has detailed 45 changes packed into Beta Version 24.12, addressing issues from both System Software 23.39 and 23.40. A significant portion, 37 of these changes, are dedicated to bug fixes across various functionalities. This should lead to a more stable experience for users.

Beyond bug squashing, the update also promises to speed up place of interest (POI) search results. Additionally, it adds new instructions for entering pairing mode for the HRM 200 and HRM 260, which will be helpful for those using Garmin's heart rate monitor accessories.

For those in India who are part of the Garmin Beta Program, the update isn't automatic. You'll need to manually check for it. To do this, navigate through your smartwatch's main menu to Settings, then System, and finally Software Update, before tapping 'Check for Updates'. It's important to remember this is a beta, so general users might prefer to wait for a stable public release.

While Garmin continues to support the Fenix 8 series with software updates, the company has already introduced newer flagship smartwatches to the market. Notebookcheck notes that the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro are now available, alongside the Enduro 4 and Marq Gen 3. This update for the Fenix 8 series ensures that existing users still get improvements, even with newer models around.

For current Fenix 8 owners in India, this beta update suggests Garmin's ongoing commitment to improving their devices. If you're a beta program participant and comfortable with potentially minor issues, the bug fixes and small feature enhancements could be useful. However, for most users, it's generally wiser to hold off until a stable, non-beta version of this software becomes widely available. This ensures a smoother, more reliable experience without the risks sometimes associated with beta software.
