Nothing is reportedly developing two smart glasses models, including one with a camera and ChatGPT integration. This move could help the brand tap into the growing smart glasses market, as per a new report.
Nothing, a brand popular for its distinct design language in smartphones and audio products, is reportedly venturing into the smart glasses market. According to tipster Roland Quandt, whose claims were shared by Indian publication Smartprix, the company is developing not one, but two models of smart glasses.
Two Models, Different Features
One model is tipped to function primarily as an audio accessory, offering capabilities for music playback, audiobooks, and calls, alongside acting as a shortcut for a paired phone's voice assistant. The second, more advanced model, is said to include all these features plus a camera, ChatGPT integration, and language-to-language translation.
Both versions are expected to come with photochromic lenses, which automatically adjust their tint based on ambient light. Smartprix notes these are rumored to be standard photochromic lenses, not the more premium Transitions brand.
Why Smart Glasses, Why Now?
This move could be significant for Nothing, especially in India where its smartphones, earbuds, and headphones have gained considerable traction. The timing aligns with a broader industry trend, as global smartphone shipments saw a sharp 20% year-on-year decline in Q3 2026, according to a Counterpoint Research report cited by Smartprix. In contrast, the global smart glasses and eyewear market is experiencing substantial growth, with some niche segments like display-less smart glasses (focused on audio and cameras) even seeing triple-digit growth.
For a brand like Nothing, known for its unique visual identity and strong mid-range presence, entering a surging market like smart glasses makes strategic sense. Smartprix speculates that the audio-only pair could launch first, potentially with aggressive pricing. This model would fit well alongside Nothing's existing audio products, side-step potential privacy concerns associated with camera-equipped glasses, and likely be more cost-effective to produce. The camera-enabled model, offering features akin to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, would naturally command a higher price point.
Design, Launch, and What's Still Unknown
While no images or detailed design specifics have been revealed, Smartprix suggests both glasses would likely carry Nothing's signature transparent design. Crucially, details regarding pricing, battery life, and a firm launch timeline remain unconfirmed. Earlier reports had floated a 2027 launch, but this is presented as 'conjecture' rather than a solid plan. For context, Nothing is reportedly planning to launch roughly six smartphones in 2027.
Further supporting these developments, Roland Quandt also noted that Nothing has established separate business units specifically for audio products and for AI-native products. This organizational shift suggests a focused approach to these new categories. Indian consumers keen on advanced wearables will certainly be watching to see if Nothing can translate its design excellence and market understanding into a compelling smart glasses offering.
