Apple Tipped to Launch New MacBook Pros, iPad mini 8 on Oct 28

Apple is set to announce a second wave of new products on Wednesday, October 28. This event, dubbed 'Pro and Tell,' is expected to bring new MacBook Pro models, a refreshed iPad mini, and updated iMacs, according to a report from MacRumors.

Unlike traditional splashy keynotes, most people will experience these announcements via press releases. While some media members are invited to Los Angeles for an early look, the rest of us will see the product details drop around 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, which is late evening in India.

High-End MacBook Pro Gets OLED and Touch

The star of the show, as hinted by the 'Pro and Tell' name, is expected to be new high-end MacBook Pro models. These are set to introduce two significant firsts for the Mac lineup: OLED display technology and a touchscreen. Design changes are also anticipated.

Interestingly, these top-tier MacBook Pro models are tipped to use the same chips as the current generation. This suggests Apple might be positioning them as an even more premium option, potentially selling alongside the existing MacBook Pro lineup. For Indian buyers, this means an even steeper entry point into the high-end laptop market, where current MacBook Pros already command a premium.

The addition of OLED displays and touch modules is expensive, MacRumors points out, so we can expect these new MacBook Pro models to cost more than the current versions. While there were whispers of a 'MacBook Ultra,' it seems Apple is sticking with the 'Pro' branding.

M6 Chip for Entry-Level MacBook Pro and iMac

Beyond the high-end models, Apple is also expected to update its 14-inch entry-level MacBook Pro. This model, which saw an M5 chip update in October 2025, is now tipped to jump to the M6 chip. No other external design changes are expected for this variant.

Similarly, the 24-inch iMac is also slated to receive an M6 chip upgrade. Like the entry-level MacBook Pro, the iMac won't see any external design refreshes. These updates are more about internal performance bumps rather than radical redesigns, which might appeal to those looking for a solid workhorse machine without paying for the bleeding-edge display tech.

iPad mini 8: OLED and Water Resistance Incoming?

Perhaps one of the most exciting updates, especially for tablet enthusiasts, is the anticipated iPad mini 8. This compact tablet is expected to get an OLED display, making it the first iPad outside of the Pro lineup to feature this vibrant screen technology.

The iPad mini 8 is also tipped for a design refresh, including a vibration-based speaker setup that eliminates traditional speaker holes. This change could lead to a more water-resistant design, potentially making it the first iPad with an official IP rating, able to handle splashes and possibly even submersion.

Under the hood, the iPad mini 8 is expected to pack the powerful A20 Pro chip, the same one found in the iPhone 18 Pro models. This would be a significant performance boost. However, it's not yet clear if the screen will retain its 60Hz refresh rate or get a smoother 120Hz ProMotion upgrade. Another practical change is the front camera, which is expected to move from the portrait side to the landscape side, a sensible adjustment for video calls.

All these upgrades, particularly the OLED display and potential waterproofing, are expected to push the price up. MacRumors suggests the new model could cost around $200 more than the current $599 model. For Indian consumers, a $799 iPad mini means a substantial price jump, placing it firmly in the premium compact tablet segment.

Availability: Pre-Orders Soon After Announcement

Following the October 28 debut, these new Mac and iPad options could launch as early as November 6. If Apple follows its pattern from recent home product launches, pre-orders might begin on the very day of the announcement, October 28.

For Indian buyers, the high-end MacBook Pros with OLED and touchscreens will be niche, appealing to those who absolutely need those features and are willing to pay a hefty premium. The iPad mini 8, on the other hand, looks like a compelling upgrade, bringing Pro-level display and durability features to a smaller form factor. If you're in the market for a compact, powerful tablet and don't mind a higher price tag, waiting until October 28 for more details might be a good idea.
