Samsung Expands Galaxy AI, Bixby Language Support, No New Indian Languages Yet

Samsung is expanding language support for its Galaxy AI features and Bixby, aiming to make these experiences accessible to a broader user base in their native tongues. The rollout for Bixby's new languages begins today, October 14, while the Galaxy AI language additions are slated for the coming weeks, according to Samsung Newsroom Global.

Galaxy AI's Broader Reach

For Galaxy AI, the language expansion focuses on features that handle translation, transcription, and summarisation. Call Assist, Note Assist, Interpreter, and Transcript Assist are now getting support for Hungarian and Malay. This brings the total number of languages for features like Live Translate within Call Assist to 24.

Additionally, Now Nudge, an AI feature that suggests relevant next steps based on on-screen content, is also adding eight new languages. This expansion also brings Now Nudge to a total of 24 supported languages, enhancing its utility for more users globally.

Bixby Learns More Languages

Bixby, Samsung's device agent, which allows for intuitive device control through natural conversation, is also receiving an update. Users can ask for what they need without needing to know specific menu paths or setting names. With the addition of Polish, Thai, and Vietnamese, Bixby now supports a total of 12 languages. These new Bixby languages are beginning their rollout today, October 14, as Samsung noted.

What This Means for Indian Users

While this is a significant global expansion for Samsung's AI capabilities, it's worth noting the specific languages added in this particular update. The newly supported languages (Hungarian, Malay, Polish, Thai, Vietnamese) do not include any major Indian regional languages.

For Indian Galaxy users, this means that while the overall push towards more accessible AI is positive, this specific language update won't directly enhance their experience in languages like Hindi, Tamil, or Kannada, for example. Users who communicate frequently in any of the newly added languages will, of course, find this beneficial.

Samsung's Galaxy AI suite already offers some impressive features, but local language support is key for deeper adoption in a diverse market like India. We'll have to wait to see if future updates bring more Indian languages to Galaxy AI and Bixby, making these smart features truly local for millions of users here.
