OnePlus has launched its new flagship, the OnePlus 16, in China starting at CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs 86,000). While an India launch isn't confirmed, local pricing could exceed Rs 1 lakh.
OnePlus has launched its latest flagship, the OnePlus 16, in China, starting at CNY 5,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model. That works out to roughly Rs 86,000, according to Business Upturn. The phone went on sale in China on October 13.
This marks a significant 50% increase over its predecessor, the OnePlus 15, which launched at CNY 3,999 last year. It signals a clear shift in OnePlus's pricing strategy. Higher-storage variants of the OnePlus 16 are priced at CNY 6,799 and CNY 7,499 in China.
On the spec sheet, the OnePlus 16 packs a 6.78-inch flat LTPO OLED display with an impressive 185Hz refresh rate, a specification clearly aimed at mobile gamers. It's powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, built on TSMC's 2nm process and clocked at up to 5.01GHz.
The phone runs ColorOS 17, which is based on Android 17. For serious gamers, a reworked Fengchi gaming kernel aims to reduce frame drops during extended play sessions.
An official India launch for the OnePlus 16 hasn't been announced yet. However, one tipster has reportedly claimed that OnePlus is preparing two flagships for India, with a potential launch window in December or January. This information is unconfirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.
If the OnePlus 16's pricing in India follows the precedent set by the iQOO 16 (which shares the same China starting price and is confirmed for India), we could see the device launch above the Rs 1 lakh mark here.
Interestingly, OnePlus has stated it will stop launching new phones in North America and Europe. Despite this, the company maintains that India remains a priority market for them, which is good news for local fans.
The steep price increase isn't just a OnePlus thing. It reportedly aligns with an industry-wide trend of rising smartphone prices, driven by higher memory costs.
For Indian buyers, the OnePlus 16, if it arrives, looks set to compete in the ultra-premium segment. The combination of a high-end chip and gaming-focused display might appeal, but the projected price tag will likely be a major consideration against established flagships already on sale here.
