Apple has announced that pre-orders for the foldable iPhone Duo will begin on Friday, October 16, at 5:30 p.m. IST for Indian customers. The new device features Apple's largest iPhone display ever and a compact design when closed.
Apple Newsroom India has confirmed that customers can pre-order the new iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable iPhone, starting Friday, October 16, at 5:30 p.m. IST. The highly anticipated device will be available for pre-order through apple.com and the Apple Store app.
A Foldable iPhone with Apple's Largest Display
The iPhone Duo brings Apple's largest iPhone display ever in a foldable form factor. When opened, it becomes the thinnest iPhone yet, offering an inner display that is a substantial 50 percent larger than the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. This expansive canvas is designed for viewing content, gaming, and multitasking.
When closed, the device features a 5.4-inch outer display, providing 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, making it a compact and pocketable option. Apple highlights a precision-engineered hinge that offers a smooth, satisfying feel. The iPhone Duo also boasts an IP68 rating, making it splash, water, and dust resistant.
A20 Pro Powering iOS 27 and Siri AI
Under the hood, the iPhone Duo is powered by the A20 Pro chip, promising pro-level performance. It features a dual-battery architecture, which Apple says will deliver impressive all-day battery life.
The device runs on iOS 27, which has been reimagined to adapt to the versatile ways users can interact with the foldable design. iOS 27 changes how content reacts as the iPhone Duo folds, reorients when turned, and switches displays. This includes features like Split View multitasking and seamless app switching for enhanced productivity. It also supports StandBy mode on both the inner and outer displays, even when not charging, turning the device into a photo frame, widget hub, or clock.
A major highlight is Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence. This new version of Siri is described as profoundly more personal, capable, and conversational. It uses personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, and onscreen awareness to assist users. Siri AI will roll out in beta in English with iOS 27 and is particularly useful on the large inner display, allowing users to keep Siri open alongside an app to ask about onscreen content. A new Siri mode in Camera also lets users get information and take action on what's in front of them.
Advanced Camera System and New Features
The iPhone Duo comes with an advanced camera system designed to leverage its breakthrough foldable design. It includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera capable of sharp photos with zero shutter lag, along with an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto for closer shots.
There's also a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera for wider fields of view and macro photography. The Center Stage front camera automatically adjusts for photos and videos in any orientation, removing the need to rotate the iPhone for landscape selfies. A new FaceTime camera is placed underneath the inner display, enabling calls whether the phone is open or propped up for hands-free use.
Customers can choose between two refined colors: star white and night sky.
Pre-Order Process and What's Still Unknown for India
Indian customers looking to upgrade to the iPhone Duo can take advantage of financing options and Apple Trade In, receiving instant credit for eligible iPhone 13 or higher models when shopping directly with Apple. Apple Specialists will also be available for personalized support, assistance with payment options, and information on AppleCare+ or AppleCare One.
For those eager to secure their iPhone Duo, Apple advises configuring the device, choosing accessories, securing financing pre-approval, and arranging trade-in ahead of time. Saving these choices to the shopping bag before 9:30 a.m. IST on Friday, October 16, will allow for a single-click checkout when pre-orders open at 5:30 p.m. IST.
What remains a critical unknown for Indian buyers, however, is the pricing for the iPhone Duo. Apple Newsroom India's announcement does not include any pricing details, which makes it challenging for consumers to weigh their options against other premium smartphones or foldable devices currently available in India. While the specifications look impressive on paper, the lack of a price tag means potential buyers will have to wait for more information before making a decision.
