Apple has launched the HomePod mini 2 in India, featuring the S10 chip, 360-degree audio, and a new Sound Glow lighting effect. It's priced at Rs. 18,900 and is available for pre-order now.
Apple has officially launched the HomePod mini 2 in India, priced at Rs. 18,900. This next-generation compact smart speaker is available for pre-order now through Apple’s India online store and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability starting October 30, 2026.
Siri AI and Personal Context Understanding
Powering the new HomePod mini 2 is Apple’s S10 chip. A significant feature coming later via a software update is Siri AI, built on Apple Foundation Models. This update promises more conversational responses, improved music discovery, and personal context understanding across apps.
When paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, the HomePod mini 2 can recognise up to six household members by voice, securely connecting to their devices for tasks like messages and timers, and playing their favourite music.
Even without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, users will eventually get Siri AI’s broader world knowledge, conversational capabilities, and enhanced music discovery features once enabled on the speaker.
360-Degree Sound and Smart Audio
For audio, the HomePod mini 2 delivers 360-degree sound. Its computational audio system works in real time to optimise dynamic range, loudness, and overall acoustic performance. It supports a stereo pair setup for a wider soundstage, or multiroom audio for playing the same music across several HomePod mini 2 devices.
For a more immersive experience, two HomePod mini 2 speakers can be paired with an Apple TV 4K for surround sound. The system automatically calibrates audio timing and levels based on the speakers' position in the room. It can also act as a speaker for Mac devices during movies, gaming, FaceTime, and video calls.
Sound Glow and New Colours
Beyond sound, the HomePod mini 2 introduces 'Sound Glow'. This feature adds lighting effects to the speaker's top, which glow and pulse in response to music playback, syncing with bass and treble. The colours are determined by album artwork displayed in Now Playing, and even selected soundscapes like rain will trigger corresponding animations.
Apple is also bringing new colour options to the HomePod mini 2, including pink, green, blue, white, and midnight.
Smart Home Integration and Privacy
As a smart home hub, the HomePod mini 2 lets users control compatible accessories via voice commands. The Home app supports automations and scenes, allowing management of multiple accessories simultaneously. Users can remotely control devices like smart locks, garage doors, blinds, thermostats, and lights through the Home app on their iPhone.
Apple emphasises privacy, stating that Siri AI requests can be processed on-device or via Private Cloud Compute. Data handled through Private Cloud Compute is not stored or made accessible to Apple or other parties.
Sustainability Efforts
The device also incorporates 100% recycled rare earth elements in all its magnets. Its Apple-designed printed circuit boards use recycled gold plating, tin soldering, and copper foil. The paper packaging is 100% fibre-based and designed for recycling, aligning with Apple’s 2030 carbon neutrality goal.
What This Means for Indian Buyers
At Rs. 18,900, the HomePod mini 2 positions itself as a premium smart speaker in the Indian market. While the initial launch doesn't include the full Siri AI capabilities, the promise of personal context understanding and improved conversational AI through a future update is a significant draw for Apple ecosystem users. The new Sound Glow feature and updated colour options also offer a fresh aesthetic over its predecessor.
For those already invested in Apple's ecosystem, especially with Apple Intelligence-enabled devices, the HomePod mini 2 offers enhanced integration. However, buyers should remember that the full AI features will arrive later as a software update, and it's not an out-of-the-box experience.
Commenting on the launch, Kaiann Drance, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Home Product Marketing, highlighted that the HomePod mini 2 'brings together Siri AI, gorgeous new colours, and incredible audio. With Siri AI, it understands you better than ever, drawing on personal context and broad world knowledge to make music discovery even richer.'
Considering its price point, the HomePod mini 2 is clearly aimed at users who value Apple's ecosystem integration, privacy features, and sophisticated audio processing. Its availability for pre-order now allows early adopters to get their hands on it before the October 30 retail launch.
