The vivo V80 is now available in India across major online and offline stores. Smartprix's review points to its strong cameras and large battery as key features, though it flags display tuning issues.
The vivo V80 has officially arrived in India, now available across major online retailers like Amazon and Flipkart, alongside vivo’s official channels and offline stores. As the latest entry in vivo’s camera-focused V-series line, the V80 aims to stand out with its imaging capabilities, a massive battery, and the debut of OriginOS 7 in India, according to an early look from Indian publication Smartprix.
Smartprix's review highlights the V80 as an easy recommendation for users prioritising cameras and a bright display. The phone features a ZEISS main camera and a 3X zoom, which are key reasons to consider it. The wide selfie camera also offers practical use, a detail noted by the publication.
A significant highlight of the vivo V80 is its substantial 7,200 mAh battery, which Smartprix reports can comfortably last a full day with normal use. What’s more, the phone comes with a 90W charger right in the box, capable of fully charging the device in about an hour, a convenient feature for busy Indian users.
The V80 makes some design changes from its predecessors. It features a distinct full band across the back where the cameras are housed, giving it a cleaner aesthetic. The phone uses an aluminium frame and an AG matte glass back, which Smartprix found effective in resisting fingerprints and offering good grip. Weighing 203 grams, it's surprisingly light for a phone with such a large battery, and its slim 157.5 x 74.3 x 7.7 mm profile makes it comfortable to hold.
Durability is also a strong point, with the V80 carrying an IP68 and IP69 rating. It also retains a useful IR blaster. However, Smartprix did note that the USB port is still USB 2.0, meaning larger file transfers might take longer than some users would prefer.
On the display front, the vivo V80 packs a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with a 2750 x 1260 resolution, supporting 1.07 billion colours and DCI-P3. Text appears sharp, and outdoor visibility is strong, with vivo claiming 5000 nits local peak brightness and 1800 nits HBM. The panel also boasts a 4320 Hz PWM dimming rate and a 144 Hz refresh rate, though most normal apps run at 120 Hz, as observed by Smartprix.
However, Smartprix pointed out some issues with the screen’s tuning. Content often appears over sharpened and colours can seem flatter than expected. While switching to the Bright or Professional colour profiles might help, Smartprix believes a software update from vivo is needed for a proper fix.
Under the hood, the vivo V80 runs on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, paired with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. For everyday tasks like calls, chat, maps, streaming, and social media, Smartprix found the performance to be perfectly adequate. Apps stay open, and scrolling is generally smooth.
The performance limitations become more apparent with heavier workloads. Smartprix observed that camera processing takes an extra second or two, and the phone can warm up during longer video recording sessions. Honestly, it's a bit disappointing to see the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 carried over from the previous V70, especially when the review suggests it might struggle a bit with more intensive tasks.
The V80 is also one of the first phones to ship with OriginOS 7 based on Android 17, and the first V-series phone in India to feature it. This new interface offers more optimisation and extensive customisation options compared to OriginOS 6. Smartprix noted improvements in the lock screen, Control Center, and a more detailed battery page, making it easier to track usage.
In the box, buyers will find the vivo V80 itself, the 90W charger, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a SIM ejector tool, a protective case, and a pre-applied screen protector. This comprehensive set of accessories adds value for Indian consumers, who often appreciate not having to buy essentials separately.
The vivo V80 seems like a solid option for those in India who prioritise a strong camera system, long battery life, and fast charging. While the display tuning and processor choice are points to consider, its premium design, IP rating, and the inclusion of OriginOS 7 make it an interesting contender in the market.
