The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are seeing a significant price drop in the US, according to Mashable. This US-specific deal spotlights the older model's continued strong performance against the newer XM6, offering Indian buyers a useful perspective on premium headphone value.
According to a report by Mashable, the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are currently available on Amazon US for a steep discount. Priced at $198, down from their list price of $399.99, this amounts to a 50% saving of $201.99. The US publication notes this matches the lowest price the headphones have ever seen on Amazon, as of October 12.
For Indian readers, it's important to note that this specific deal is applicable only on Amazon US and the prices mentioned are in US dollars. However, the report offers valuable insight into the current positioning and perceived value of the Sony XM5 in the global market, especially with the newer generation now available.
Mashable has consistently praised the Sony WH-1000XM5, even giving it an honourable mention as a Mashable Choice product on their list of best headphones. Despite being an older model, its Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is still considered among the best available, and its call quality is highlighted as an added advantage.
The context for this significant US price drop is the arrival of the new XM6 headphones, which Mashable reports are priced at $458. This makes the sale-priced $198 XM5 a compelling 'budget option' for those looking for premium audio without sacrificing quality, as the report suggests.
What does this mean for Indian buyers? While we don't have confirmation on similar discounts locally, this US trend indicates that the Sony WH-1000XM5 continues to be a strong performer on paper, even against its successor. If you've been considering high-end noise-cancelling headphones, the XM5 could still be a wise choice if and when it sees local price adjustments or offers.
Mashable also briefly mentions another budget-friendly Sony option, the Sony WH-CH720N, which was reportedly under $100 at Amazon US, specifically $88. This indicates Sony's broader strategy across different price segments.
Honestly, if you're in the market for premium headphones in India, keeping an eye on the Sony WH-1000XM5 is a good idea. Even without this exact US deal, its strong ANC and call quality, as reported, make it a valuable option, particularly if local retailers decide to adjust pricing in light of newer models entering the market.
