Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 India Launch Delayed to January 2027

Samsung's latest item tracker, the Galaxy SmartTag 3, will not be launching in India until January 2027, as confirmed by a Samsung India executive. This means Indian consumers will have to wait over a year for the device, which was announced a few weeks ago globally.

Daill Kim, Samsung India’s Head of Tablet, Note PC and Wearable, shared on LinkedIn that the tracker is slated for a January 2027 release in the country. An exact launch date within that month was not provided.

Global Availability and Initial Release

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 was introduced as the successor to the Galaxy SmartTag 2. It initially launched in South Korea on October 7 and is expected to see a US release in November. This timeline means a significant delay for its debut in the Indian market.

Major Upgrade: iOS Device Compatibility

One of the biggest changes with the Galaxy SmartTag 3 is its expanded compatibility. While previous Samsung trackers only worked with Galaxy phones, the new SmartTag 3 can connect to iOS devices through the SmartThings Find network. This is a crucial improvement, allowing households with both iPhones and Android phones to track the same items, view location history, and use local search capabilities. This flexibility could be a significant draw for Indian families using a mix of devices.

Enhanced Tracking and Design

The new tracker brings several improvements over its predecessor. It is 35% smaller in volume and 33% lighter than the Galaxy SmartTag 2. The design features a rounded shape, an aluminum button, and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. It will be available in black or white color options, with Samsung selling separate Silicone and Loop Cases for attachment.

For finding items nearby, the SmartTag 3 uses Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, offering a range of up to 60 meters, which is about three times that of the SmartTag 2. Once you are closer, it switches to ultra-wideband (UWB) for more precise tracking. If the tag is out of your phone's Bluetooth range, it leverages the Galaxy Find Network, relying on other opted-in Samsung devices nearby to relay its location.

Smart Alerts and Features

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 includes several convenient alert features. Users can set up Place Notifications to be alerted when the tag enters or leaves specific areas like home or office. There are also movement detection alerts, Left Behind alerts if your phone disconnects from the tag, and a comprehensive location history log.

The tag's button can also be used to control SmartThings smart home devices. Should the tag be lost, anyone who finds it can tap it with their phone, and the built-in NFC chip will display your registered contact details, making it easier for lost items to be returned.

US Pricing Revealed, India Pricing Unknown

In the US, the Galaxy SmartTag 3 is priced at $29.99 for a single unit or $99.99 for a four-pack. However, Indian pricing details are currently unavailable and are not expected to be confirmed until closer to its 2027 launch.

For Indian consumers eager for the latest in item tracking from Samsung, the confirmed delay means a long wait. Those needing a tracker sooner might need to consider currently available options, or simply hold out if they are set on Samsung's latest offering with its new iOS compatibility.
