Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Leaks Point to Processor Shift, Bigger Battery

New leaks suggest Samsung is evaluating a major shift in its processor strategy for the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, reportedly due to heating concerns during testing. The flagship smartphone, expected to launch in early 2027, is also tipped to bring a larger battery, improved display, and camera changes for Indian buyers.

Potential Processor Change Amid Heating Concerns

According to Digit, citing Seoul Economic Daily, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is currently being tested with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. However, if reported heating issues persist beyond October, Samsung might explore using its own 2nm Exynos 2700 processor instead. This would mark a significant change, as the company has primarily relied on Snapdragon for its Ultra flagships for the last five years, including the current Galaxy S26 Ultra which uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

For Indian consumers, a shift to an Exynos chip could raise questions about performance consistency and thermal management, especially considering past experiences with Exynos variants. It's a key detail to watch as we get closer to the potential launch.

Larger Battery and Expected Charging Speeds

One of the more tangible upgrades leaked for the S27 Ultra is a significantly larger 5,700mAh battery. This is a noticeable jump from the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 5,000mAh unit, which should translate to better battery life on paper. However, charging speeds are expected to remain similar to its predecessor, with support for 60W wired and 25W wireless charging.

Display Enhancements and Design Tweaks

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is tipped to retain the familiar 6.9-inch 2K AMOLED QHD+ LTPO anti-reflective screen found on the S26 Ultra. But it could feature an improved 2nd-generation Privacy Display and a higher-grade M16 panel, offering better viewing experiences. Tipster @OnLeaks on X also claimed the S27 Ultra will have slimmer display bezels measuring 1.21mm, though it might come with a slightly larger camera bump at 4.64mm.

Camera Upgrades with a Reduced Sensor Count

In a surprising move, Samsung might cut down one rear sensor on the Galaxy S27 Ultra compared to the S26 Ultra, yet still offer an improved setup. The phone is expected to ship with a 200MP HP6 main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 50MP 5x telephoto rear sensor. The selfie camera is also tipped for an upgrade, moving from a 12MP unit on the S26 Ultra to a 16MP shooter. The S26 Ultra, for comparison, has a 200MP main, 50MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto, and a 50MP periscope 5x camera.

The camera module itself is reportedly getting a redesign, with Digit suggesting it could be reminiscent of the iPhone 18 Pro. While losing a sensor might sound like a downgrade, the focus on higher-resolution ultrawide and telephoto sensors, combined with an improved main and selfie camera, could still offer a better overall photography experience.

Software and India Pricing Details

The S27 Ultra is expected to launch with One UI 9.5 based on Android 17 and could offer an impressive seven years of OS upgrades, a significant improvement over the S26 Ultra which debuted with Android 16. Samsung may also introduce some Galaxy AI features exclusive to the S27 Ultra at launch, before rolling them out to older models.

For Indian buyers, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is anticipated to start in the sub-Rs 1.7 lakh price range. This would be a jump from the S26 Ultra, which currently starts at Rs 1,54,999. The device is expected to be announced in February 2027 and go on sale in March next year. Given the current price of the S26 Ultra, potential buyers will have to weigh the leaked upgrades against the anticipated price increase when deciding whether to wait for the S27 Ultra.
