Apple is reportedly set to introduce new OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro models in late October, with a potential launch on Friday, November 6. This significant shift to a touchscreen Mac, a first for the Pro lineup, has been tipped by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, as reported by MacRumors.

The debut is expected around October 27 or October 28. Apple retail stores in the US apparently have a "big floor reset" scheduled for the evening of Thursday, November 5, and into Friday, November 6. Gurman suggests this could be in preparation for these new Mac products. The introduction itself might happen at a creator-focused gathering in Los Angeles, rather than a traditional Apple event, though Apple is expected to "do something" with videos at the very least.

For Indian buyers, the most intriguing detail might be the internal hardware. While the display technology is getting a major upgrade to OLED and adding touch capabilities, the new OLED MacBook Pro models are not expected to feature new chips. Instead, they are said to use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips found in the existing MacBook Pro models.

This positioning suggests the OLED touchscreen models could be sold as a higher-end option, potentially commanding a premium price based primarily on the display technology and touch functionality, rather than a performance boost. It raises questions for consumers in India: is the OLED touchscreen and its convenience worth a potentially higher price if the underlying processing power remains unchanged from the current generation?

Interestingly, the rumour mill isn't just about the MacBook Pro. Apple is also tipped to be launching an OLED iPad mini, an M6 iMac, and an M6 entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro alongside the touchscreen Pro models. The inclusion of M6 chips in other rumoured Macs highlights the M5 chip situation in the OLED MacBook Pro even further.

Gurman had previously suggested Apple might name the new OLED Macs the "MacBook Ultra" but has since walked that back, indicating they would likely remain part of the MacBook Pro line. The "Ultra" naming convention hasn't been adopted by Apple for its products so far, despite earlier suggestions for an iPhone Ultra or AirPods Ultra.

If the MacBook Pro models do launch on November 6, it will cap off a busy few weeks for Apple. Other products lined up for release include the iPhone Duo on October 23, the HomePod mini 2 on October 30, and the HomeView and fourth-generation Apple TV 4K on November 13.

Indian consumers looking for a new high-end laptop should weigh whether the advanced OLED touchscreen and its potential premium are a must-have, or if the current mini-LED models with the same M5 Pro or M5 Max chips offer better value. Those prioritising a chip upgrade might find the rumoured M6 entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro more appealing, depending on its positioning and eventual pricing.
