Huawei has confirmed the launch date of its second-generation tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT 2. The new foldable phone is set to debut in China next week and will replace the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, which was introduced in 2024. Ahead of the launch, Huawei has also started accepting pre-orders and revealed details about the phone’s design, colours, RAM and storage variants.
Huawei Mate XT 2 Launch Date and Design
Huawei has announced through Weibo that the Mate XT 2 will launch in China on September 7. The company has released teaser videos showing the phone with an inward-folding design. This is different from the outward-folding mechanism used on the first-generation Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design.
The new Huawei Mate XT 2 features a wing-shaped tri-fold design, with the left and right sections folding towards the inside. The phone also gets an octagonal camera module at the rear, giving it a different appearance from its predecessor.
Huawei has also highlighted a privacy-focused display feature. The technology is designed to keep the screen clearly visible to the person using the phone while reducing visibility from wider side angles. This could be useful for users who often use their smartphones in public places.
Huawei Mate XT 2 RAM and Storage Options
The Huawei Mate XT 2 is claimed to measure just 3.5mm in thickness when unfolded. Huawei says the device is the thinnest and largest foldable smartphone when fully opened. The company has also introduced a new hinge mechanism, which is said to improve durability and provide better resistance against accidental drops.
The phone can reportedly be unfolded by double-tapping the outer display, making it easier to switch between its folded and unfolded forms.
Huawei has already opened pre-reservations for the Mate XT 2 through its Vmall online store in China. The smartphone will be available in two main configurations: 16GB RAM with 512GB storage and 16GB RAM with 1TB storage.
A special version of the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage model will also be offered with a privacy screen installed. More details, including the Huawei Mate XT 2 price and complete specifications, are expected to be announced at the launch event.
