HP OmniBook 3 16 sees cheaper Snapdragon C variant launch

HP has expanded its OmniBook 3 series by introducing an even cheaper version of its 16-inch laptop, the OmniBook 3 16. This new variant comes with a Snapdragon C (C1-10-100) processor, aiming to offer a more budget-friendly option compared to the existing model.

For context, HP released the original OmniBook 3 16 earlier this year with the Snapdragon X X1P-26-100 chip. That model started at $649, and Notebookcheck's review noted its strong CPU performance, low temperatures, and decent battery life.

Pricing and Configurations Revealed

The new Snapdragon C variant starts at $599 in the US. This base model includes 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of UFS storage, and a 1200p display. Those looking for more storage can upgrade to a 256 GB SSD, which brings the price to $699. There's also a configuration with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD, priced at $769.

HP also offers other memory options. You can find configurations with 128 GB of UFS storage and a 256 GB SSD, available with either 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM. For maximum storage, users can configure the laptop with up to a 512 GB SSD, with or without additional UFS storage.

Display, Keyboard, and Connectivity

All display options for the new OmniBook 3 16 are 1200p IPS panels, running at 60 Hz with 300 nits brightness. They offer 62.5% sRGB colour space coverage and an anti-glare coating. HP differentiates these panels primarily through touchscreen support or a micro-edge finish.

Interestingly, keyboard backlighting is an optional extra, costing $20. By default, the keys, including the built-in number pad, are not backlit. For connectivity, the laptop features dual USB Type-A ports on either side, along with an HDMI 2.1 port and dual USB Type-C ports located on the left-hand corner.

Battery Life Claims and Colour Options

Every variant of the new OmniBook 3 16 ships with the same 3-cell, 41 Wh battery. HP claims this battery can deliver up to 20 hours of life when playing locally stored 1080p videos at 200 nits brightness, with the laptop's speakers set at 100% volume.

In terms of aesthetics, most configurations default to Glacier Silver. However, the starting $599 SKU comes in Mica Silver. Other colour options like Mica Silver, Starlit Blue, and Warm Gold typically carry a $10 surcharge over Glacier Silver.

What This Could Mean for Indian Buyers

While specific India pricing and availability are not yet confirmed, the introduction of a Snapdragon C variant suggests HP is keen on offering a more accessible entry point into its OmniBook 3 series. The $599 (approximately ₹49,900, at current exchange rates) starting price, while subject to import duties and local taxes, positions it as a potential option for students or users needing a lightweight, long-lasting machine for basic tasks.

Compared to the Snapdragon X version, the Snapdragon C model, being cheaper, likely targets a slightly less demanding user. The 20-hour battery life claim, even under specific conditions, could be a significant draw for users prioritising endurance on the go. However, the base 4 GB RAM and 128 GB UFS storage might feel restrictive for some users in India, who often expect at least 8 GB RAM and an SSD as standard in this price segment.
