Nothing | UK has officially announced the CMF Speaker S, a new portable speaker featuring an 18-hour battery life and IP68 dust and water protection. Indian buyers can likely expect this feature-packed device to arrive soon, though local pricing and availability remain unconfirmed.
Nothing | UK has officially unveiled the CMF Speaker S, a brand-new portable audio device designed for music on the go. This announcement introduces a speaker packed with features like an 18-hour battery life, robust IP68 dust and water protection, and a unique design.
Design and Durability for On-the-Go
The CMF Speaker S takes design inspiration from a milk carton, giving it a distinctive look. It's built for portability, coming with a carabiner hook, so you can easily attach it to bags or belts. The speaker also features removable panels, allowing for some personal customisation, a neat touch for users who like to make their gadgets stand out.
Durability is a key focus here. According to Nothing | UK, the Speaker S boasts an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, meaning it can handle splashes, rain, and even temporary submersion in fresh water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. It also passed a 0.76 metre drop test, suggesting it's ready for some rough and tumble in daily use.
Sound Quality and Customisable Audio
On the audio front, the CMF Speaker S uses a custom 45 mm driver paired with adaptive tuning. This setup aims to deliver sound across a 70 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range with a 10 W output. Two passive radiators are also included to boost the low-end resonance for deeper bass.
For those who want more control over their sound, the Speaker S works with the Nothing X app. This app offers four EQ presets: Balanced, More Bass, More Treble, and Voice, along with an option to fine-tune the sound with a Custom EQ. You can also pair two Speaker S units for a wider Stereo Mode or link multiple compatible speakers via Auracast for a Party Mode, expanding coverage and volume.
Smart Connectivity Features
The CMF Speaker S offers a range of modern connectivity options. It supports NFC Fast Pair, allowing for quick tap-to-connect or disconnect functionality with compatible phones. Google and Microsoft Fast Pair are also on board, enabling one-tap connections with Nothing, Android, and Windows devices.
Additionally, the speaker supports dual device connections, so you can link it to both your phone and laptop and switch between them automatically. For a more stable and high-quality audio experience, you can plug in via USB-C for lossless audio with less than 60 ms latency, making it suitable for desktop use with films and gaming.
Physical controls are also a highlight, with a dedicated knob for adjusting playback, track navigation, and volume. There are separate buttons for power, Bluetooth, and Auracast, plus a toggle to swap the knob and front panel functions, enhancing user interaction without needing to reach for your phone.
Battery Life That Lasts
Battery performance appears solid for a portable speaker, with Nothing | UK stating up to 18 hours of audio playback. This figure was measured under specific conditions: fully charged, Balance EQ and Ultra Bass turned on, volume at 50%, and AAC format. If you're short on time, the speaker also supports fast charging, providing up to 1 hour of music playback from just a 10-minute charge, provided you use a 5V⎓3A or higher adapter.

What This Means for Indian Buyers
Given Nothing's strong presence in India, it's highly probable that the CMF Speaker S will make its way to the Indian market. Its feature set, including the robust IP68 rating and long battery life, positions it well against popular portable speakers already available here.
For Indian consumers, the key factors will be the India-specific pricing and the exact launch date, neither of which has been confirmed by Nothing | UK yet. If the pricing is competitive, the CMF Speaker S could be an appealing option for those looking for a durable, feature-rich portable speaker with good sound customisation and extended battery life.
